WELCOME, DOCTORS: Pikeville Medical Center officials welcomed several residents who are studying at University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine during an annual residency banquet this week.
PIKEVILLE - Pikeville Medical Center hosted its annual Residency Banquet at the Landmark Inn, Mark V in Pikeville on June 23.

The banquet was held in recognition of incoming residents, graduating residents and those who will be moving to their next level of training.

It also gave residents an opportunity to thank the volunteer faculty for their participation.

The residents voted to honor PMC Volunteer Faculty members Jody Brown, DO, Ayorinde Medaiyese, MD, Muhammad Ahmad, MD and Paul Maynard, MD with awards.

PMC Chairman of GME, Mark Swofford, D.O., said, "This was another great graduation class. The preceptors in the clinic have brought the best out in the residents and we were lucky to have Dr. Dunning as residency director."

PMC Residency Director of Medical Education and Family Medicine Program Director, Maleshea Dunning, D.O. said, "I continue to be honored and humbled by the relationships I have built with my residency involvement. I learn and grow alongside the residents and hope to instill in them the same positive qualities provided to me by my mentors."

Relationship building is an ongoing benefit in the residency program.

PMC Family Practice Attending physician Jennifer Kingery, D.O. said, "I am truly honored to work with the residents on a daily basis. The residents enthusiasm for learning and compassion for patients continues to develop throughout their training making teaching and mentoring them very rewarding."

PMC Director of Plus One Residency and Co-Director of the Integrated Residency, Dr. Edward Stiles, D.O., F.A.A.O. said, "Sasha Fach, D.O., PhD was the Plus One resident this year.  She has done an outstanding job and has been a pleasure to teach and mentor."

Sasha will be returning to the Mayo Clinic system.

PMC Chief Operating Officer Juanita Deskins presented new laptop computers to the residents who completed their first year of training.

Graduating residents from the Family Medicine program received a stethoscope and integrated residents received a stethoscope and a gift certificate to the American College of Osteopathy for education material in NMM.

Stephanie Compton, C-TAGME, Medical Residency Program Coordinator at PMC, said, "We are proud of our residency program. All of our first-year residents have passed their COMLEX 3 test.  All graduating residents have passed their board certification in FM with the exception of one resident who is scheduled to complete this testing later in the year. We strive to provide an optimal learning environment to prepare the residents for their future in medicine.  On behalf of PMC, we wish them well."
